Plainfield, CT — A 62-year-old Plainfield man and his terminally ill 62-year-old wife were found dead in their Kate Downing Road home Monday evening in an apparent “compassionate homicide”-suicide.
According to the Plainfield Police Department, at approximately 7 PM on Monday, February 23, 2026, the resident of 504 Kate Downing Road called 911, identified himself, and reported that his wife was suffering from terminal brain cancer and he intended to take her life and then his own. He explained to the dispatcher that he would shoot his wife, then himself, and that the doors would be left open for responding officers.
The department went on to explain that officers immediately responded and, upon entering the residence, located the two occupants with apparent gunshot wounds. Both residents were pronounced deceased at the scene, and the firearm was recovered. Both individuals were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
